Been wanting to try an old barn find build for awhile now. This will be a '36 5 Window Ford AMT ERTL # 6924. Going to use the salt method with acrylic paints. Started out with Dupli Color Red Primer.
Then yesterday, shot 6 shades of AK Rust Set.
So here's how she sits for now.

That's looking ace already. Looking forward to watching the rust evolve. Will you be corroding the brightwork too? I've always wanted to see how that's done.

Thanks. My plan is to use the salt method and add a few top coats for a Gasser Style paint job. So yes, allot of the lighter rust will show through. My first try, so cross your fingers.

Looks pretty cool so far. I love when the base rust coats are on, means the fun stuff is ahead.

Yes, still have to complete the chassis and suspension, as well as the interior and motor.

Looks cool so far! Dr Cranky uses the salt tech to do some amazing finishes on old cars.

Very interesting! I'm intrigued by that gauze foam technique, never seen that before. Thanks for sharing that link, Bruce.

First I have heard of it too. Might have to give it a go one of these days.

Tried it by peeling the green pad off a kitchen sponge, then pulling it apart. It separated into 2 halves. Looks like used dryer sheets could work as well, if taped to a wire holder, to keep it's shape.

I use a very course pad that can be found at places like Homedepot. I have mine from when I did the technique back in Germany over ten years ago. I brought back a large piece and it's lasted til now. Going to have to buy more soon.

She looks great just like that, just needs a couple of coats of gloss and she's ready for the road.

Thanks, but she has a ways to go. Worked on the chassis and upgraded the suspension with traction bars, shocks rear end out of the Willys kit.
Also decided to go with Comp Resin 60s Hallibrands and reversed rear Drag rims, along with Race Master Pie Crust slicks and Pirelli 60s Nostalgic front tires.
The interior is Cammo brown and the engine will be a Cadillac with 6 deuces.
Most of the base colors are all on and she's ready to start the weathering process.
