Made this a while back but and keep going back to it as feel it's missing something. Can't seem to get the old rusted metal look that I feel comfy with! Any ideas anyone? I'm not fantastic at colour matching or copying so please be gentle!

Looks good John. Maybe add some various rust tones to break up the all brown look. Different types of metal oxidize different. You can add some lighter shades of rust as washes, paint the narrow metal bands with rivets a different rust color, rust streaking and so on. Maybe add some paint chipping. Rob

Thank you kind sir.
It's funny, I've been looking through the images and you're spot on with the advice for the metals rusting in different ways. I'll attempt what you've pointed out and also I see you can get weathering powders now too. Might buy some pastels and grind them up as I see thats an option.
Cheers for that advice, when I get five I'll pop a pic up.

It's all in the research and studying. Been doing the rust thang for over 13 years and am still finding new ways of doing things. Here are a couple of pics of how you can do the industrial stuff.

Nice piece John! Yeah, some layered rust tones would make things really pop!
Some definite inspiration there Rob!!

Echo the guys above. A good base of varied rust tones is a great start. I still haven't got the hang of creating all the tones and textures Rob can conjure up though.
More cool ref pics Rob.
