Not my usual kind of build but a colleague asked me to do something interesting with one of his Gundam kits. Challenge accepted. The idea is to create a U.N. Peacekeeping robot from the not too distant future. The story is that the peace has been enforced a little too well and the robot now sits gathering rust, with no conflicts (or people) left for it to "peacekeep" over. A bit of Terminator in there somewhere. The build was simple, it being basically a snap together kit. I've applied a sky green basecoat over a rust coloured primer base and then chipped back several layers of light sky and white topcoats using AK's worn effects and a variety of brushes and tools. I'm just adding surface rust now using AK's rust washes and Mig pigments. A small base is planned, possibly with the robot sitting atop a rusted shell of an M48 or T-90 MBT. Not sure on the actual scale of these Gundam kits but I reckon 1:72nd tanks should do the trick. It's all modelling eh?

That going beautifully! The washes you've done so far on the leg and feet look great!

Thanks John. I came to an abrupt halt on proceedings as I need to fix the figure in a pose before continuing with the rust streaks and filters as I don't want the streaks to be defying gravity. I saw a beautifully executed diorama once that was sadly spoiled by extremely beautifully painted items that had been added to the diorama rather than painted with it. The contrast was obvious. The upshot is that this means getting the base concept up and running before I continue painting, and I need a few supplies for that first. (and I thought this was going to be a quick and easy project ;0) )

Bruce, tell me about it. John, thanks but it's stalled on the bench due to work. Hope to get a bit more done soon.
