I'm blogging this build over on Milmod but seeing as it's intended to be depicted as an abandoned aircraft with as much rust on it as I can justify, I thought it might be fun to post up some progress pics here too, and, get the Aircraft Build Blogs started. My next build will be a rusty wreck I promise. Current status: Cockpit heavily weathered with a spot of "gizmology" to add some detail to the rather bare Tamiya offering. Some inspiration photos of where I am thinking of heading with the weathering: I'm waiting on some Rosie the Riveter wheels to add some more .... er, Rivet details to the fuselage and I'll put up some pics soon.

Thanks. Still undecided on the finish. Bare Metal or flaking camo scheme? I only have Tamiya enamel and Citadel metallic paints so no fancy Alclad finishes possible. Tamiya's Titanium enamel gives a pretty decent Silver but will need to be tweaked to get the Matte bare metal finish. Any ideas?

Can't help with paint/color choice, but look forward to seeing how this turns out.

Just a small update with the fuselage and wing halves joined and canopy masked. Engine will never be seen again but I know it's there ;0) I'm still waiting for the inspiration for the final finish on this. Bare metal or heavily faded camo scheme? Hmmmmmm.

The heavily oxidized aluminum skin on the pic above looks interesting, but hard to duplicate.

Why not have the tail on the floor leaving the engine sticking out, then you can go to town on the engine as well, lots of dangly wires etc

I like that idea of the tail on the ground and showing off the nice kit engine.

Sorry for the late reply. Work and a busted computer are to blame.
Rob/Graham: I've loosely attached the front and aft fuselages so I can go back at some point in the future to do the engine properly but for now this is just an experiment in weathering bare metal.
Hope to get the primer and silver basecoat on this weekend. I'm using Tamiya "titanium" metallic enamel as I can't get Alclad or other more suitable paints where I am. Does anyone know if you can polish Tamiya metallic paints and whats the best buffer material to use?

Managed to get some benchtime yesterday and added the silver basecoat. It was tough to get the surfaces smoothed back without removing the silver back to primer and had to respray a few times. I'll give this a while to cure whilst I work out how to create the weathered look I'm after.

Thanks Rob. I'm experimenting with enamel paints at the moment. Hope to have an update soon.

Looking forward to it. I've been doing a few models at once and got some primer on my PT76.
